Seeking to promote bilateral trade ties between India and Pakistan and to take it to a new level, the Karachi and Bombay Chambers of Commerce have entered into an agreement to establish a joint forum.
The decision to establish such a body was taken after the fifth round of talks on commercial and economic cooperation between the Commerce Secretaries of both countries in Islamabad in April this year, the Bombay Chamber of Commerce (BCC) said in a statement here.
The agreement was signed here by BCC president Ashok Barat and vice-president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce Junaid Esmail Makda on Friday. Mr. Barat said there was a need for taking effective and practical steps for boosting commercial ties between the neighbouring countries. Reciprocating the sentiment, Mr. Makda said businesses could forge lasting and mutually beneficial relationships between the two countries.
Earlier this week, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry secretary-general Rajiv Kumar visited Pakistan and held discussions with various commerce chambers.
The chambers have been stressing on the need to facilitate trade and economic integration between the two countries.
There has been a growing demand by businessmen of the two countries that a joint group on the visa issue should be formed and long-term visas issued on multi-city basis for businessmen of both sides.
